Ashiyana reinvented with renovations at heritage building

It’s a staple in the capital city for authentic north Indian cuisine and it’s undergone a transformation.

Located within the old town hall heritage building, the reinvention of Ashiyanas has been a labour of love.

Owner and Restaurateur, Dhruv Morris says it’s taken some 20 years to be able to get the extended restaurant space upstairs, from their initial eatery.

“Because it is a heritage building, there are limited things you can do, some things you can’t do. For everything we do, we have to take approval from the council, the council goes to the Heritage Association, and they get approval and then from there we are okay. So it took a long process.”

With an investment of more than $350, 000, Morris says they have listened to their patrons and now have a bigger space to accommodate group bookings.

Holding a soft launch last night, Morris says the renovation and extended space has also meant creating new menus and introducing a number of innovative creations.

One of the newest additions is the availability of Shisha Pipes in which fruit-scented tobacco is burnt using coal, passed through an ornate water vessel and inhaled through a hose.

The experience of Shisha, also known as a Hookah or Nargile will give Fijians the experience of a popular Arabic pastime.
Ashiyanas will officially open their extended restaurant on the 8th of March.
