The Fiji Sugar Corporation has so far produced fifty thousand, seven hundred and forty-eight tonnes of sugar.

Corporation’s Senior Admin Officer Timoci Sila says crushing is not up to the expectation however, the crush of the Lautoka and Labasa mills have been hitting 5,000 tonnes within 24 hours.

Sila says the Rarawai mill is picking up and in last 24 hours has hit 5017 tonnes which is a positive sign after the refurbishment of its boiler.

He adds FSC has engaged its Lorries to help farmers transport cane to the mills.

“That has been mobilized to those gangs and harvesting units who have shown interest. As we speak it is on-going and we are expecting some more Lorries to come. This has helped some of our gangs who have fewer Lorries. I believe the number of Lorries will increase which will also increase the output of the mill.”

He says more farmers are utilizing the trucks to transport their cane rather than the railway as it consumes more time to transport cane through the railway.
