503 Fijians reemployed

The Ministry has approved 149 Hairdresser/Barber applications.

Around 503 Fijians are back at work following approvals by the Ministry of Commerce, Trade and Tourism.

Their reemployment comes as the Ministry has approved 149 Hairdresser/Barber applications.

Permanent Secretary, Shaheen Ali, is reminding business operators that they cannot operate as normal.

Ali says normal has a new definition that requires everyone to adhere to COVID Safe Protocols.

He adds the Ministry welcomes the reopening of these businesses however, they remain high risk hence they should ensure to comply with protocols.

“We’ve come out with a set of protocols which that we see deem that can allow them to operate safely thus it becomes very very important for those hairdressers and barbershops to follow the protocols to the letter to keep themselves safe and also keep the clients safe.”

The Ministry has warned that breach of protocols can lead to the closure of a business.

Anyone found not complying can be fined up to $10,000 and/or imprisonment of up to five years.
