46 traders prosecuted for unscrupulous practice

More than forty traders are now facing legal consequences for their unethical behaviors so far this year.

The Fijian Competition and the Consumer Commission has taken these traders to court for failing to mark expiry dates, selling expired items, not issuing receipts and overcharging customers.

FCCC General Manager Operations Senikavika Jiuta says harsh actions have been taken against those who continuously disregard the law to earn extra cash.

“We have fined not only just traders but this includes landlords as well. We have fined about 46 traders and landlords and the fine that has been imposed on them has come up to about $82,000 in total. Just recently a prominent business was fined $20,000. So these fines are basically to deter any unscrupulous behavior

Consumers are being urged to spend their hard-earned money wisely and exercise caution at all times when taking advantage of upcoming sales, as we enter the festive season.
