181 new investors trade on SPSE in 2018

Large number of investors continue to show its confidence in the Fijian economy, particularly through investing into the South Pacific Stock Exchange.

In its monthly trading report, the SPSE reveals to date 181 new investors have entered the stock market over the 11 months of 2018.

This is an increase of 35.07% in comparison to the same period in 2017.

For November alone, 13 new and first time investors entered the stock market.

Eight existing investors were seen to be re-entering the market either through increasing their existing shareholdings or diversifying.

Looking at the age range of investors, young investors continues to top the table.

According to the report, majority of the new investors fall between the ages of 26-35 years making up 34.52%.

This is followed by those between the ages of 36-55 years which is showing a rapid increase.

Overall it can be witnessed in the report that 66.07% of new investors fall between the ages of 26-55 years collectively.

However, not side-lining the younger investors, youth between the ages of 18-25 are also investing – making up a percentage of 13.10%.

As for employment based results, 57.46% of investors are from the private sector with students and farmers making up 6.62%.

The market overall grew by 2.85% in November which is a 61.87% increase compared to the November 2017.
